This blog is about a journey that I started in 2003 while waiting for my new MINI Cooper S. Blogging was still somewhat new and I thought it would be interesting to document interesting things and projects about MINI ownership.  Over time it morphed into a repository of DIY projects and thoughts about track driving.  If you read something interesting (or that you’d like to correct) please register and leave a comment.  Information and images that are not original have been gathered from public sources.  If you believe information has been incorrectly sourced or not adequately cited, please use the contact form and let me know.  Otherwise, see you on track.

Why the name “Spec R53”?

“Racing’s important to men who do it well. When you’re racing, it’s life. Anything that happens before or after is just waiting…”  (Steve McQueen).

OK, that’s a quote from a movie, but there is a certain element of truth to it.  I’m tired of waiting.  In the USA we have Spec Miata, Spec E30, Porsche GT3 Cup, even Indycar is a spec series.  Why no MINI?  The original new MINI Cooper S, the R53, is now over 10 years old.  Prices of decent used cars are falling to the range of $5,000 – $7,000.  Why not create a spec series for MINI?  This site is designed to promote and encourage track participation at the grassroots level.  Come along.  Get out on the track.  Go fast(er).
